The Shimano Tyrnos is a high speed offshore fishing reel that targets big game fish either when trolling or when tossing bait. This levelwind reel is bulletproof and lightweight and features oversized gears, a diecast aluminum frame and an oversize handle shank.

The Tyrnos reel was designed specifically for smaller big game fish such as the bluefin tuna, dorado, wahoo and albacore.

Offshore trolling reels are designed with a lower gear ratio for greater power when you are battling a huge fish. The Shimano Tyrnos incorporates a ratcheting drag system that prevents the lever from sliding when the boat is bouncing. The range on the drag is from Free to Strike to Full. The washers on the drag are completely sealed to protect salt water a other grit from entering.

Most big game reels are heavy, but not the Tyrnos, thanks to the graphite sideplates. This, plus the diecast makes this reel lighter than other reels, yet it maintains all the structural support needed under heavy loads.
